RIFLE MATCH.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, appears a communication which is an excellent proof of the well-known fact that certain peisons are incapable of understanding a joke without previously undergoing a surgical operation. Your correspondent, who it would seem has as little humor as his learned "nom de plume," evidently failed to see that the words " prominent carbine shots " at once suggested Josh Billings' explanation "N.B. This is sarkasm"; and with an industry worthy of a better cause proceeds to show up tho grossness of the fraud. Well, the shooting portion of the public is doubtless obliged to him, but when one comes to think of the amount of research displayed and trouble taken to crush this feeble little joke, it would seem that our friend is one of those who would break a butterfly on the wheel, or perchance he is Mark Twain's Eastern magician, who "didn't think nothing of snatching up a shot tower by tho roots and belting a Sunday School superintendent over the head with it." Allow me to say that this last is figurative, or we shall have our critic stating that he is well acquainted with all the latter gent'emen and never knew such a thing to occur. Ah, we'd, "There are more things in Heaven and earth. Horatio, than are lrcamt of in your philosophy."—l am, etc., Sliding Bar.
