THE CHORAL FESTIVAL AT CHRISTCHURCH.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Your correspondent, “ Tomahawk,” questions that we are in a state of darkness in Church progress. Those of us who have recently left Home, and have seen the wonderful work carried on among working men (and especially young men), share the opinions expressed by Bishop Nevill and His Excellency the Governor, Only walk into one of our churches, and you will see the most disgraceful behavior of the younger members of the congregation. The Church has no hold whatever upon th« larrikin element. The Church of England Working Men’s Society has a branch in every important town at Home. It was established to defend the catholic faith from persecutions of obstructionists, and has succeeded in a wonderful way. If the Bishop had the assistance he deserves, wo should have mission rooms started in all quarters of the town, with hearty devotional services. The present state of the Church seems hopeless in Dunedin, with so much bigoted opposition to any improvement.—l am, etc., Progress. Dunedin, November 29.
