REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET.
TO THK EDITOR. Sih, —Amongst the names of those players chosen to practise for the coming interprovincial match I notice those of Fleming and Skitch (Excelsior), J. Fitzgerald (Clarisbrook), F. Horne (Southern), Henderson (Albion), and Sontag (of the Kaikorai Club). Of the two former I thought their claim to firstclass cricket was settled when they appeared against Auckland for the defunct Association. J. Fitzgerald, I believe, they are very fond of. I mean his bowling is much liked by the Canterbury men, whilst in batting he has no defence. F. Homo has never appeared before good bowling or faced a crowd. Henderson is utterly useless as a bat, and his bowling would be child’s play to Canterbury. Whatever has Sontag done to entitle him to election? I fancy from the very weak team selected for practice, as published in your columns of

If the Match Committee’s present selection is any indication of what their final one will be the interprovincial match for 1883-84 is a foregone conclusion. I trust, however, that they will, for the credit of the district, look into the claims of some of those I have mentioned.—l am, etc., Watch. Dunedin, December 13.
