MR PYKE EN VIGILANCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —In your last evening’s issue I observed a letter from Mr Vincent Fyke, M.H.R., pointing to the necessity for fa Vigilance Committee because of the inefficiency of our various commercial aid municipal organisations. As an illustration, he says : “ Perhaps you are aware that before otherwise moving in the matter I urged the chairman of the Chamber to convene a meeting of that body to consider the partial etonpage of works on the Hindon section, and that he declined to do so.” Mr Pyke seemingly has forgotten to add to he declined to do so ” until he had inquired into the matter and found there was a necessity for it, ,_ r n . , Knowing that the brilliancy of Mr Pyke s imagination frequently loads him to magnify troubles, and knowing, too, that the Hindon section had been reserved for giving work during the winter months to men out oi employment, I confess I doubted the advisability of such a course—a doubt which has been fully justified by the result.—l am, etc,, _ Geo. Bell, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. Dunedin, December 13.
