ELIGIBLE FOR TESTS
LEAGUE MEN IN KIWIS
P.A. AUCKLAND, November 30. An assurance has been received by the New Zealand Rugby League from the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, that two League.players with,,the,, New Zealand Army Rugby; team in Britain will be eligible to play in international matches. The players are J. G. Simpson and R. W. H. Scott, and it was recently suggested in England that there was an understanding with the touring team that they would not be included in international matches because they were professionals. The New Zealand-Rugby League protested to the Minister of Defence, and stated that as neither of the players had ever received any remuneration for playing League football they were not professionals. The League also stated that the men had served their country with credit on the field of battle and were entitled to represent it on the field of sport. In his reply Mr. Jones says the matter has now been cleared up, and the men will be eligible for selection for international matches.
