OBITUARY
MRS. J. CAIRNS-COWAN
The death occurred recently of Mrs. Cairns-Cowan, widow of Captain Cairns-Cowan,, master of the Tainui. which foundered with all hands some 26 years ago in the vicinity of Cook Strait. Mrs. Cairns-Cowan, who was in her 64th year, was married in "^estport and later lived in Wanganui, coming to Wellington li> reside in 1924. Her courage, self-reliance, and devotion to her family of eight children, earned her the affection and admiration of a large circle of friends. The youngest child, Margaret, who is now on the staff of a Sydney' broadcasting station, was well known in Wellington dramatic circles. One son recently returned after serving five years abroad with the* N.Z.E.F., and another is serving with the 9th Division of the A.I.F.
