GERMAN AUSTERITY

APPLIED TO PRISON CAMPS

LONDON, December 5.

No more entertainments are allowed in prisoner of war camps in Germany. "A musical comedy we have just finished writing for Christmas has been banned," wrote a British prisoner from Stalag VII. Hitherto concerts and variety entertainments have been a regular feature of prison camp life, but the "Daily Mail" says that Himmler's new austerity rules, which form part of the total war drive imposed on the Germans, have been extended to British prisoners of war.

The Red Cross has received informa-* tion from other camps that entertainments are banned. The protecting Power, Switzerland, is investigating the ban, which deprives the prisoners of one of their few pleasures.
