NURSES' BEACH COTTAGE
The nurses of Wellingtonare having a gala day on December 9, when every nurse who can be spared from the wards is to make merry at "Homewood," Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland's residence at Karori, where a garden partyis to be held. As women's services and girls and boys : of secondary.schools are invited to take part in swimming sports, and the nurses themselves will be in uniform, an unusual gathering is expected.
The money raised by the various forms of entertainment are to go to the Wellington Nurses' Beach Cottage Fund, which has now-reached £754 in the savings bank account. It is intended to buy or build a house and cottage, the'larger to provide for nurses convalescing from sickness and the smaller for days off and weekends. The fund was started about eighteen months ago, when a foundation was laid through the making of lavender bags and other small articles and selling them among the. staff at the hospital. After a while outside people became interested and assisted the nurses' efforts until it was found advisable to form a registered association. Sir Charles Norwood is president. ■ .
