TURF NOTES

(BY "BINOCULAR.")

DUNEDIN GUINEAS

ATTRACTION AT WINGATUI

(Special to "The Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Kevin's luck was at a low-water mark* in the Tally-Ho Handicap at the Otago Hunt Meeting, but with average fortune in the running of the Ranfurly Handicap at Wingatui tomorrow he should go close to winning. Kevin is a fit and proved horse over ten' furlongs, ana Royal Lancer and Fair Trial do not look like worrying him. Platform has not shown dash in any of his recent starts but Tring and Sal's Pal appeal on TallyHo, form. Tring was a surprise winner over the mile at the Hunt fixture, and as he ■is a-stayer he should be hard to hold off. Sal's Pal made up ground to run third to Tring j last week, and is a type likely to benefit considerably from the race. Arabian Night looks the pick of the others, and the distance will suit him better than the mile of the Tally-Ho Handicap.

Earlier it looked as if Riccarton would provide the winner of the Dunedin-Guineas, the local candidates including Air Ace, Piccolo, Pensacola, Joygiver, and Debater, but Bonny Flight raced her way into the picture by winning the President's Handicap at the Hunt Meeting. A sister to Royal Flight, winner of the event last year, she looks certain to improve With A. E. Didh'am in the saddle. Nevertheless, the Riccarton team is a strong one. There is not1 much between R- Wilson's pair, Pensacola and Piccolo, but if ridden in behind, Pensacola may win, as this Golden Eagle gelding is improving in stamina. Piccolo is certain to race solidly, and if Air Ace travels better than he did at Ashburton he may test the best. Of the others, Debater and Joygiver are I likely improvers, and also Wild Cry, | though he may start in the Kaißorai Handicap. The McLean Stakes has drawn many promising two-year-olds, but it will be the first time they have been seen under race conditions. At the Otago Hunt Meeting some of them took part, in a parade, Knight Crusader, Major Argosy, and Loyal Lady showing "promise. Riccarton is well represented ; with Major Argosy, Superlative, Eudora, Montezuma, Princess Anne, and Racilla, for they all sprint fast. Form horses are:— Wakari- Hurdles.—Albino, .
