LICENSING TRUST
STATEMENT ABOUT FEES There is a misconception abroad that the chairman and members of the Invercargill Licensing Trust are receiving large fees for their work, states an Invercargill message. In one case it has been mentioned that the chairman would receive £1500 a year. "The salary paid to members of the trust is £2 2s a meeting, or a maximum of £100 a year," said the chairman, Mr. Hugh Ritchie, in a statement. "The chairman will receive £200 a year. Several members of the trust are already in executive positions and are receiving salaries commensurate with their positions. The addition of £100 or £200 does not mean that they will receive that amount net, as income tax is on a graduated scale, and any addition to their present salaries means that they will pay tax at a higher rate. "In most cases they will receive consi<3erably less than half the amount mentioned. When the number of meetings held by the trust is taken into account—seven have been held already —and the time involved also is considered, it will be realised that the members of the trust will not be overpaid for the services they are giving."
