FOUR VICTIMS IN 5 SECONDS
Rec. 12.10 p.m. RUGBY, April 5. A United States second lieutenant is credited with the destruction of four Messerschmitt 109's in five seconds while escorting heavy bombers attacking Verona, says a Naples correspondent. Engaging six 109's with long-range bursts, he collided with one, which crashed into another, both exploding. A section of the United States pilot's wing was torn off, but he outran two other 109's and made a belly-landing safely. Later his camera film revealed two more of the 109's crashing in flames while he was flying his damaged aircraft.—B.OW.
