THE SCOTTISH REEL

SOLDIER TAUGHT BY QUEEN A member of the Canadian Forestry Corps, Lieutenant Sidney T. Clark, of Port Arthur, now serving in Scotland, recently danced with Queen Elizabeth in Balmoral Castle. He wrote in a letter to his wife that he and his fellow-officers received invitations to the castle, where he met the King and Queen and the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. After their introduction to the Royal Family, Lieutenant Clark and a friend entered the ballroom, where, a Scottish reel was in progress. "We both sat the dance out," he said, "because the steps were strange to us. A charming lady in black lace came over and asked, 'Why are you not dancing?' I stood up quickly and said I was sorry I did not know any Scottish dances. ■ " 'Well, there is no time like the present to learn,' she said, and with that she led me out on the floor. I could not and would not refuse, because my dancing teacher was the Queen —and so it began, with her Majesty telling me what to do and when."
