OTAGO PROTEST

SHEARERS AND MUSTERERS

A protest has been made by the chairman of the Otago Primary Production Council against the nonrelease of shearers and musterers from the Armed Forces and the recalling of others who had been released.

It is understood that several weeks ago the War Cabinet agreed to the release of shearers and musterers of all military grades from the Armed Forces for a period of approximately 12 weeks, subject to a recommendation by a primary production, council and approval by an armed forces appeal board. ■ The hitch in the South Island apparently was only temporary and was due to Army reorganisation. It is understood that shearers and musterers are now being released in accordance with War Cabinet's decision. '
