OIL FUEL ECONOMY
STRICT RUSSIAN ORDER
LONDON, August 17
Prodigious Russian activity: is reported from Baku. Old men and women and youths are working in the oilfields factories throughout the day and night to step up production. Very strict fuel economy has been ordered throughout the Soviet Union.
The Stockholm correspondent of "The Times" says: "The Germans are still hammering at the Russian positions on the lower Kuban River near Krasnodar, and they have been brought to a standstill at Cherkesk. The Russian aggression, in the Voronezh, Bryansk, Vyazma, and Rzhev areas is apparently making it more difficult for the Germans to' withdraw troops for use' in the other sectors, where the attack is slowing tip."
The Moscow correspondent of "The Times" says the Russians have continued to advance around Voronezh, where German attempts to retake strategic lines are unavailing.
