INCESSANT ATTACKS

NAZIS IN VORONEZH AREA

The Germans are attacking incessantly in the Voronezh area, and street fighting continues in a village which the Germans entered yesterday. Fierce battles are raging in one district near Voronezh city, with the Germans hurling in tanks and infantry supported by artillery, mortars, and planes. The Russians repelled these forces. The newspaper "Red Fleet" reports that a considerable portion of the Luftwaffe is now engaged in mass raids on Novorossisk, Anapa, and Tuapse. Vichy radio declared that fast German motorised units have encircled the Grozny oilfields, and captured Gudermes.

A German communique states that south of the lower Kuban River and in the north-west Caucasus Axis forces are advancing in a further successful offensive.

■ A supplementary Soviet communique states: "Our troops fought tense defensive battles in the area south-east of Kletskaya, where, at the cost of heavy losses, the enemy succeeded in driving a wedge into our advanced positions. North-east of Kotelnikovo our troops, after repelling several enemy assaults, counter-at-tacked and routed a Rumanian infantry regiment. In the Mineralnye Vody area our troops, under pressure of numerically superior enemy forces, effected a fighting withdrawal to new positions. In the Voronezh region large enemy forces have taken the offensive on the west bank:of the Don, penetrating to a village where heavy street fighting is going on."'
