MERCHANT NAVY TO TAKE PART

Since the announcement yesterday of units that will be taking part in the big United Nations Day parade in Wellington. ,on Saturday, arrangements have been made for -the participation also of a party of men from the Merchant Navy. It was thought today that this party would comprise between 60 and 70 men. They will carry the Red Ensign, as the flag representing all the men of the Merchant Navy. It is seldom in this country that the opportunity is given of seeing men of the Merchant Navy on parade, and on this occasion particularly the public will be anxious, no doubt, to give expression to its sense of appreciation of the vitally-important part these gallant men are playing, not only in ensuring essential supplies for the Armed Forces, but also for the army of civilians behind them.

. It is also announced that, in addition1 to the eight bands which it was stated yesterday would be taking part, the Police Pipe Band will be associated with the parade.
