WOMEN'S CRICKET
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Canterbury and Otago women cricketers began a match for the Machin Shield today. Otago batted first, and at lunch had scored 111 for" two wickets (Stevens, not out 27; Garland, b Martin, 14; Phelan, b Taylor, 6; Blackie, not out 4S ; extras 16).
About 1500 deep wells, yielding 40,000,000 gallons of water daily, have been discovered in Manchester and Salford. They are being used for firefighting. Some of them are Roman.
