ARMY STRONGHOLD
BOMBED BY JAPANESE
(Rec. 1 p.m.) BATAVIA, Feb. 19. The Japanese today made their first bombing attack on Bandoeng, the Dutch army headquarters and the natural stronghold of Java, high in the mountains 74 miles south-east of Batavia. Twelve Japanese bombers, flying low, bombed and machine-gunned an airfield while 20 enemy fighters circled protectively overhead. Some damage was done to the airfield, and one Japanese bomber way probably shot down. Two Dutclp. fighters were lost but one pilot is safe. It is now revealed that eight Japanese bombers and one fighter were shot down in yesterday's raid on Surabaya. One. Allied fighter was lost, but the pilot parachuted to safety.
