FINES IMPOSED
LIGHTING BREACHES
A fine of £2 was imposed in the Magistrate's Court today by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., on Leonard Hamel, who pleaded guilty to a breach of the lighting restrictions. Mr. A. R. Cooper, who appeared for the City Council, described how lights had been found showing at Hamel's house at Karori, and said that when the wardens had gone to the door the defendant had ordered them off the premises, making no excuse or explanation. Hamel said that he had the residence properly blacked-out, but he had been springcleaning, and the wind had also blown some paper away from a window. In spite of his efforts to black out the place the warden still picked on him.
Irene Bailey, who did not appear, was fined £2 for a similar breach with respect to a Karori residence.
