NEW YORK. January 8
Hudson River piers at the corner of 43rd Street, in the centre of New York City, caught fire early this morning. All the New York fire brigades, aided by fire boats, worked desperately to prevent the fire from spreading.
The blaze destroyed a large pier owned by South American and South African steamship lines, and also a number of barges.
The Mayor, Mr. F. LaGuardia, is standing by. Three firemen are missing.
The F. 8.1, is investigating.
