FACTORY BUILDINGS
FIRE-PREVENTION MEASURES
The recent disastrous fire at the premises of the Empire Box Company, Petone, has caused the Petone Borough Council to review the question of the granting of permits for. factory buildings, and it has been decided that each application for a factory building shall be placed before the works committee fqr special consideration in regard to fire prevention.
In regard to the issue of a permit to rebuild the premises of the box factory, the council has laid it down as a condition to the granting of a permit that a separate fire-resisting compartment for the storage of wax and other inflammable material, with no inside access to other parts of the building, should be provided, and has also recommended that a sprinkler system be installed, as well as the outside provision of a fire-hydrant and fire-plugs and bucket pumps installed throughout the factory.
