SMALLER SUPPLIES

FOOD AND CLOTHING

AUSTRALIAN OUTLOOK

(Rec. 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 20

A warning of increasing interference with the supply of clothing and foodstuffs to Australians was given by Mr. A. W. Fadden, the Acting Prime Minister, today. Because of war industry demands, he said, Australia must inevitably suffer a much greater degree of rationalisation of industry than there has yet been reason to foresee. "Vanishing point may be reached in some civil requirements." said Mr. Fadden. "W are determined to make the maximum effort to meet war orders. The possible shortage of foodstuffs applies particularly to tinned goods as Australia is dependent on the U.S.A. for supplies of tinplate."—U.P.A.
