KING'S BIRTHDAY

HOLIDAY DATE

OBSERVANCE THIS YEAR

No dispatch has been received from the United Kingdom Government on the question of the observance of the King's Birthday as a public holiday in New Zealand on some other date than the first Monday in June this year. Last year, shortly before the first Monday in June, an amending provision was made as a war emergency measure in respect of the observance of the birthday for that year, the holiday being transferred from the first Monday in June to November 25.

Sports bodies and others who have .made inquiries on the subject have been advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that it has no knowledge of any similar proposal this year, and that in terms of the Sovereign's Birthday Observance Act. 1937, the birthday of his Majesty King Geoi*se VI will be observed on Monday, June 2.
