AIR FORGE BAND
MUSICAL. WORK IN OWN TIME
The mistaken.belief by some people that the, personnel of the R.N.Z.A.F. Band; have ho duties apart from their music would have,been lispelled if t!.ose people could have seen the bandsmen a few days ago returning to Rongotai, soaked to the skin, after a spell of guard duty at two points iin Wellington. ;
It is not generally known that the bandsmen carry out ordinary station duties just as do any other non-flying personnel,, and that their work in the band is done in their own time and without extra pay. Trie only times they have not carried out their ordinary duty have been during the one or two occasions when the band has been sent away from Wellington on tour or at the request of local authorities has been permitted to assist in raising patriotic funds. When the band has appeared at local concerts, it has meant that the bandsmen have had to remain on duty with the band during periods when their fellow-airmen are on leave.
