WAIRARAPA JUBILEE

USEFUL FIELDS ENGAGED

Always one of the most popular of

the holiday fixtures, the Wairarapa > Racing Club's Summer Meeting this * year holds the additional interest of marking the club's golden jubilee. Except in one instance, the fields or tomorrow are of better size than usual ] at this time of the year, and it is probable that most of the horses will be i there, as so many of the acceptors did. i not race over Christmas. With the weather more settled at present than for months past, there is every prospect Of Tauherenikau being seen at its best. -This picturesque course, set amidst native bush, lends itself to a real old-time picnic gathering and there is-no other meeting in the Dominion at which racegoers enjoy themselves with the same carefree spirit as at Wairarapa. The club provides all .possible facilities for the full entertainment of its patrons. A change to win-and-place betting has been made this year. The system was used a couple of times in 1933-34, but it was then dropped. * The course is within easy range pi Wellington by road and rail. Trams to Featherston leave at 7.50 and 8.26 a.m. each day, with returns at 5.20 and 7.10 p.m. THREE OPEN EVENTS. The Wairarapa Cup is one of \he most valuable handicaps contested over the holidays, and a strong field is listed for this year's race. Catalogue did not show up as it was expected he might at Awapuni on Saturday, but he may make amends tomorrow. Little Robin has been the unlucky horse of the holidays to date, and Black Thread is liable to improve on recent efforts. Siglow will attempt-to make it a stable treble for H, A. Telford, who has won the race the last two years with Royal Star II and Globe Trotter respectively. Gay Mimic and White Rajah were Boxing Day winners, and Harina. Boldstep, and Gay Fox ran seconds at Awapuni. ... „ As there is a doubt whether Kentucky will return from the north) a single-dividend field is likely in the Pioneer Handicap, for which Autolite promises to be a pronounced favourite. Six of the eight acceptors for the Wardell Handicap are also in other races, and Sir Crusoe has accepted for Marton since the Wairarapa payment, so the composition of this field is most uncertain. Cheerful Lady, if reserved, might set the open handicappers a task to catch her. In the Bidwill Nursery Handicap, T. R. George has a strong hand with] The Whipper, Dungloe, and Kevin, as well as Clean, but others who will be supported on form are Gunyah, Monetary, Imperium, and Saka Bona, and a fresh horse who has shown much promise on the tracks is Eastern Sport, from J. W. Lowe's stable. FORM AND CARD.; The following horses will be supported:— Waiohine Stakes.—Vivid NightMetonymy bracket, The Monarch or Tristan, Princess Venus. Pioneer Handicap.—Autolite.
