TASMAN LINER HITS WHALE

Crossing the Tasman to Sydney, an American liner rammed a whale, which clung to the bows until the engines were stopped. It then dropped off and drifted astern. An hour or so before the crash passengers were entertained by a vast shoal of porpoises. They were at lunch when the liner struck and only those forward were aware of it.
