BISHOP BENNETT'S CRITICISM

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Thousands will echo s Bishop Bennett's sentiments regarding the liquor traffic in relation to our war effort. The Government urges us all to make our effort an "all-in" one— * yet it permits wet canteens in our mobilisation camps, and had. it not been for the Dominion-wide protest, similar canteens might' have been established in our Territorial camps also. Leading statesmen and soldiers at home recognise that alcohol is the enemy of efficiency, and the authorities in Australia steadfastly refuse to permit wet canteens in. camps. Many young men Who have never been drinkers are now learning the habit in camp, and the spectacle of boys in their early twenties. wearing the King's Uniform, and under the influence of liquor ■in our streets, is a disturbing one.—l am, etc..
