ONE MAN LOST

SUNKEN CANADIAN LINER

GALLANT THIRD ENGINEER

(Received February 9, 10 ajn.)

LONDON, February 8,

Seventy-six of the crew of the Canadian cargo liner Beaverbura, which was torpedoed off the south-west coast, landed at a west coast port.

Harry Teale, the third engineer, was the last to leave the ship. He remained in the engine room to switch off the engines, and jumped overboard as the ship sank. He clung to wreckage until he was picked up. His gallantry probably prevented ex« plosions endangering the liftboats. A British tanker picked up the survivors after an hour and a half. The chief cook, who was drowned, was the only victim. The Irish Channel ferry steamer Munster, which sank following an explosion, was mined.
