THREE POINTS FOR RECOGNITION

DANZIG'S DESIRES

LONDON, August 17. i Heir Hitler's neAvspaper "Volkischer Eeobachter" gives as the basis on which negotiations with Poland can be opened:— 1. Recognition of Danzig's desire to return to Germany and the injustice of the separation. 2. Recognition of the artificiality of the Polish Corridor because of the centuries-long connection with Germany, and an admission of the justine of its incorporation in the Reich; and 3. Recognition that these claims will not hamper Poland's access to the Baltic Sea, which Germany is fully prepared to ensure, conditional upon the granting of the above. The newspaper says that Britain and France, having intentionally made an understanding between Poland and Germany 'impossible, have forfeited their right to interfere. France has given the recent reported suggestion by the Axis Powers for an "armistice" over Danzig a frigid reception, characterising it as Germany's supreme move to divide the democracies, and the Press has unanimously declared it absurd to suggest that Poland can be isolated from the Allies at this late stage. "Lie Figaro" says: "Poland is the sole judge of her interests. She knows she can count on our full strength to defend them if necessary."
