Paremata Boating Club Party. The club house of the Paremata Boating Club presented a gay scene last Friday night when the members held a gift evening in honour of Miss L., Fisher, who is to be married shortly Ito Mr. D. Butcher. Cards and dartthrowing competitions provided enter!tainment for all, the winners being JMesdames Simpson and Shrubsall, Misses Simpson and Reid, and Messrs. Fisher, Lake, Perry, and Stirling. After' supper Mr. F. Brady, the club patron, asked Miss Fisher to accept the manyj parcels brought by the thanking her for her long continued support of the club and expressing the hope that the future would be very bright for them both. The club commodore, Mr. Shearer, also added his tribute. Miss Fisher andv Mr. Butcher then opened the parcels, revealing many beautiful presents that members had brought. The evening closed with.l a community sing, led by Mr. M. Coleman on the piano-accordion. Among the Guests ot Honour. Mrs. E. J. Moore and Mrs. A. McVicar were among the guests of honour at the reception given on Wednesday afternoon by the Pioneer Club for those who joined the club during the first five years after its inception. Wellington Family's Travels. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Henderson, Khandallah, are on a holiday visit to England to extend over six months or so, I writes "The Post's" correspondent in London. Mr. .Henderson intends to make contact with some of the English educationists to whom he has letters of introduction from the Director and Assistant Director of Education in New Zealand, as well as from the chairman of the Wellington Education Board and from the New Zealand High Commissioner. He has arranged to join a party of educationists who are making a tour of Russia. This tour has been arranged by the Society for Cultural Relations with that country. He hopes to see something of their child dramatic work and their methods of teaching languages. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Mountjoy, junior (son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henderson), are already in London, where the former is working as an exchange teacher for a year. Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, senior, is also in England, being a representative of the New Zealand Employers' Association at Geneva recently. Rongotai College Parents. A bridge and "500" evening arranged under the auspices of the ladies' auxiliary of Rongotai College was held in the English-speaking Union rooms on Wednesday. The rooms were filled to capacity, and a most successful even-

ing was enjoyed. Prizes were won as follows:—Contract, Mrs. Hutchison; auction, Mrs. Bell and Mr. Gardiner; •"500." Mrs. Michleson and Mrs. Bayley.

Outdoor Club Indoors. The Outdoor Club recently held its i second social evening of the current season in the Tararua Tramping Club rooms. Games, dancing, and competi-{ tions passed the time quickly. Tap dances were given by Miriam and Dolores Emden (pupils- of Miss Phyllis Oliver), harmonica solos by Mr. L. T. Dear, and string instrumental items were played by the Boyd Trio. Much amusement was caused by the conjuring tricks of Mr. S. Free, particularly when a guinea pig appeared from nowhere. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Glover, Mr. and Mrs. Prince, Mr. and Mrs. Ridding, Mr. and Mrs. Free, Mrs. Reynard, Mrs. Dick, Misses I. Dorrian, E. Carter, A. Hutson, N. Prince, K. Goodwin, J. Wilson, B. Dick, E. Trethowan, G. Glover, M. Cairns, N. Ede, D. and~ N. Free, and e Messrs. P. Donoghue, L. Glover, B. Baoumgren, D. Miller, L. Stanley, D. Wheeler, E. Gittings, J. McGill, A. Jones, F. Hey, and many others. The music for the dancing wasWpplied by Mr. S. Anderson. Green and Gold Ball. The annual Green and Gold Ball was held at the Brougham Street Assembly Hall last night. Mrs. Harfoot and Mrs. Mclntyre received the guests, among them being Lady Pomare and members of the North Poneke Club. An event of the evening was the crowning of Miss A. Winera as the Hawaiian Queen, which was performed with due ceremony. Exhibition dances were given by Mr. S. Winera, and hula dances by Miss Wyn Chown and pupils. Excellent dance music was provided by a good orchestra, and an enjoyable supper was served. Solway Old Girls' Reunion. The lecture room of the Y.W.C.A. presented an animated scene recently when the Wellington branch of the Solway Old Girls' Association gathered to discuss its part in the coming reunion of the "old girls," to be held at the college during Labour Day weekend. The evening commenced with games and competitions, and later a savoury supper was served. The hostesses were Mrs. Rix-Trott and Mrs. J. Ince. Among those present were Mrs. L. Avann (president), the Misses P. Beale. M. Goodworth, M. Ince, M. Prebble, D. Murphy, T. Wright, D. Loasby, W. Usher, M. Hudson, P. Sandilands, B. Ness, and M. Nimmo.
