SURVOY FALLS

PADISHAH SCHOOLS WELL

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. Much interest centred in the schooling of Grand National candidates over the steeplechase fences on the course proper at Riccarton this afternoon.

Padishah (Mr. G. G. Beatson) and Gold "Wren (W. E. Shand) started off from the nine-furlong post, half a dozen lengths clear of Pandine (R. Register). Gold Wren slightly outjumped Padishah at the Kennels double and the sod wall near the five-furlong post, but Padishah easily caught him on the flat and finished an excellent trial over Cutts's a little in front. Pandine completed the round, also jumping well. Survoy (A. E. Ellis) fell at the second of the Kennels double in a school with Tomcat (R> Register), Slayer (J. T. McLaughlin), and Panara. The three first-named had run together to the double, with Panara following them, till Survoy crashed at the double. Tomcat and Slayer then went on to com' plete a good school, both jumping cleanly. Panara's saddle* slipped at the top of the straight, but after his rider had pulled the horse up and fixed his gear, he completed the round without a mistake. Silver Sight, in blinkers and ridden by A. Stove, was sent over five of the trial steeplechases in the middle. He jumped well, with plenty of pace on. ■ Survoy and his rider appeared to suffer no ill effects from their fall.
