HUTT AND UNIVERSITY

So completely did the Hutt forwards control play in the Hutt-University match at the Hutt Heoreation Ground, that not once during the whole game was tho University rearguard seen in an attacking move whero all members of the line, from halt to wing, were required to handle. The Hutt pack elected to play a loose type of game, bunching in fast and handling rushes for long periods in each spell. Occasionally the ball was let. out to tho backs, and although'the scrum service was faulty at times, several dangerous rushes developed when Burton, Phillips, and Williams got under way. Minus several key men, tho University pack was further handicapped by the loss of hooker Burke after the first spell, and was forced into a defensive role. Tho University backs also were unable to get going even ou the few occasions when they were in possession of the ball.

In the first spell, O'Regan scored a try for University after a short passing . bout, and Williams scored for. Hutt after tho whole line had bandied splendidly. Duffy converted Hutt's try. In the second spell AVilliams scored again after an opening by Burton, and Flanagan forced his way over from a line-out, Duffy converting the first try. University's only addition was a splendid penalty goaJ by Trieklebank. The result was: Hutt 13, University 6.

The referee was Mr. J. Gilchrist.
