PETONE V. MARIST BROS. 0.8.
Played at a Smart pace throughout, the game between Petone and Marist Bros. 0.8, provided one of the most stirring encounters
seen at Petone for a long time. With the issue in doubt right up to the last minute and with Petone striving their utmost to regain their lost lead there were some tense moments, the climax being reached when Pollock, from a penalty, kicked a fine goal to give the home side a one-point victory. The backs on both sides lost no time in settling down. Petone, who were the first to face tho strong sun, showed splendid combination both back and forward, but the defence of their opponents was sound. Marist, after the chauge-over, made matters lively and, with the ball at toe, their forwards made some strong attacks. Pollock placed Petone further ahead with a flue penalty goal but a smart field goal by McNeil encouraged the visitors, who gained the lead when Brown was successful with a similar effort. Petone made one last desperate rally and excitement knew no bounds when Pollock kicked the deciding goal. During the first spell Pollock scored a try for Petone. The game ended: Tetone 9, Marist Bros. 0.8. 8. Mr. A. C. Swan was the referee.
