BALL IN CABARET

SCOTS COLLEGE >'OLD BOYS"

There was more an 'atmosphere of a large private party about the ball given by the Scots College Old Boys' Association in the Majestic Cabaret last night, although the function was of a semi-public nature and was attended by a very large crowd of young people. Past pupils of all years were represented at the cabaret and I foregathered with their friends in I large parties in the streamer bedecked, alcoves. Some*, by special invitation, joined forces later in the evening and demonstrated the school's individual haka, which was almost as rousing as the skirling bagpipes which had been heard shortly after the beginning of the dance. The shrilling of a whistle heralded the approach of the college pipe band, which, in full! uniform, swung on to the ballroom floor, and before it played waltzes for the dancers, marched to the stirring tunes of well-known Scottish airs. The upward force of the air from the bags set the gas-filled balloons bobbing under the ceiling, their gaily-coloured: streamer tails dancing in grotesque imitation of a Highland schottische. Mrs. K. W. R. Glaisgow, wife of the principal of Scots, afterwards presented trophies won in annual competition between the school and the Old Boys' Association. The Geddes Cup for cricket and the Lauchlan football cup were won by the -association, and Mr. D. W. Virtue was awarded the McKelvie Cup for golf. Mrs. Glasgow's lovely frock was blue and silver tinselstriped brocade, and Mrs. A. H. Campbell, who received the guests with her husband and Mr. and Mrs. Glasgow, was wearing a frock of wallflower triple ninon banded with parma violet and finished at the neckline with a posy of flowers. Mrs. I. M. Plimmer, Mrs. D. W. Virtue, and Mrs. E. Fraser were also hostesses, the dance committee comprising Mesdames A.-E.: Hurley, E. S. Scotland, S. A. Scotland, and Miss F. M.
