ALL TO BE SEIZED

FOREIGN GOODS NOT MARKED

CORRECTLY

EFFECT ON "CAN" SALMON

(Independent Cable Service.)

(.Received July 6. 11.10 a.m.)

LONDON, July 5. The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Oliver Stanley) announced in the House of Commons that the Board of Trade had given instructions at all ports and docks that all foreign goods 'not properly marked should be seized. j This is likely to apply to any further I importations of Japanese salmon which have been marked "Can," leading housewives to believe it is a Canadian product.

A London message published yesterday stated: —Mr. Stanley, in the House of Comomns, foreshadowed legislation making it illegal to use the words "foreign" and "Empire" in the future to designate imported goods. Instead of the vague term "Empire" the words "Australian," "New Zealand," or "Canadian" must be used so that buyers would know the exact country of origin.
