WINTRY CONDITIONS
SNOW IN SOUTH
SERVICES AFFECTED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
Canterbury was in the grip of real winter conditions today, when snow, sleet, and rain, driven by a strong west-south-west wind, swept the province. Up till noon snow was falling heavily at Porter's Pass and at Lake Coleridge, and Waipara . motorists, journeying from Timaru, also en* countered snow and hail between Temuka and Ashburton.
Buffeted by a strong wind and head seas, the inter-island steamer Wahine berthed at Lyttelton three-quarters of an hour behind schedule. Union Airways services were also, dislocated. The north-bound plane did not leave Dunedin until 10.34, almost two hours late, but every endeavour is being made to maintain the normal southbound schedule. The Dunedin plane arrived at Wigram at 11.50 a.m. and left for Blenheim soon after midday.
