NEWTOWN CONGREGATIONAL
CHURCH
The 41st anniversary celebrations of the Newtown Congregational Church, which 'began on Sunday, were concluded at a social function last night. The Rev. L. A. Usher, acting minister of the church, presided over a fair attendance.
Mr. A. M. Lewis, secretary of the church, reporting on the year's work, said that in December the Rev. L. A. Davidson had left to go to the mission field in the Sudan. Since then, great help had been given to the congregation by Mr. Usher. Recently a call had been sent to the Rev. C. Canell Hoskin, of Whangarei, and he would commence his duties with the church in July. The church had finished the year in a healthy, state as regards its finance and membership. It now looked forward to an era of advance under its new minister.
Mr. J. Moller reported on the financial position, Mrs. McPherson on the activities of the ladies' guild, and Mr. H. V. Pole on the Sunday School, the membership of which had been increasing rapidly.
Greetings were given on behalf of their respective churches by the Revs. H. W. Newell, A. Muriel,-and K. Bell.
Musical items were given by Mesdames J. Moller and H. V. Pole. The choir sang an anthem.
