WINTER SPORTS
ALLOCATION OF GROUNDS
The following allocation of sports grounds for winter games was recommended to the City Council last night by the reserves committee: Rugby Union, 26 grounds; Football Association, 10 grounds; Men's Hockey Association, 9 grounds; Women's Hockey Association, 6 grounds.
The committee also recommended that the Wellington Football Association should be granted the use of the Basin Reserve upon the former conditions, subject to a cash payment of £100 and to the council receiving 15 per cent, of the gross gate and stand takings, and that the Wellington Rugby League should be granted the lease of Newtown Park on the former conditions, but that the application of the league for the use of the Basin Reserve on certain Saturday afternoons for representative matches should not be approved.
The Miramar District Rugby Club is granted the use of the gymnasium at Rongotai and the sheds and a practice area on the Polo Ground at a rental of £36 for the season. The Oriental Club is granted the use of a practice ground at Hataitai Park at a rental of £5 for the season. Conditions are to be laid down by the Director of Parks and Reserves.
All the recommendations were approved, without discussion.
