SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY OFF
As the surface of Kilbirnie Stadium was considered too hard for play after the recent spell of dry weather, and as eight senior clubs had. already arranged practice games, the seven-a-side tournament to have been held by the Wellington Football Association at the Stadium next Saturday has been abandoned, according to a decision of the management committee of the association at its meeting last night. Mr. J. Meltzer presided and there were also present Messrs. J. J. Kean, A. J. Costelloe, E. J. Gates. R. Bold, M Webley, E. J. McQueen, R. Gilpin, J. H. Janes, G. F. Aers, C. H. Ballard, H. Spolsky, and the secretary (Mr. W. J. Arcus). ' The transfers were approved of C. Webster from Hospital and of D. W. Regan from Comrades (Auckland), both to Seatoun. Details' of a proposed school coaching scheme which had been prepared by the coaching committee were considered by the management committee, and the chairman expressed the opinion that the services c£ the coach, Mr. R. Sheffield, would prove of inestimable value to the game. Permission was granted for the following practice games on Saturday:— First A Division. —Petone v. Technical, at Petone; Hospital y. Swifts, at Hospital; Seatoun v. Marist, at Seatoun; Waterside v. Diamond, at Crawford Green. Second A Division. —Seatoun v. Marist, at Seatoun. Fixtures in the first A division for the opening day of the season, Saturday, April 29, were made as follows: — Hospital v. Waterside, at Hospital, 2.30 p.m. Technical 0.8. v. Seatoun, 2.45 p.m. Diamond v. Marist, 2.45 p.m.
Swifts v. Petone, 2.45 p.m. It was decided to ask referees to enforce strictly the rules concerning the condition of footballs and of boot studs. , .
