VEHICLE TESTING

PROPOSED CITY STATION

'The works committee recommended to the Wellington City Council last night that a credit balance in the lands, sales account of £ 162 should be set aside for the erection of a vehicle testing station at the Corporation yard. Councillor W. Appleton, chairman of the committee, said that the recommendation was made subject to the Minister of Transport giving the assurance that the Corporation would be entrusted with the whole work of vehicle testing. He added that he thought Wellington might give a valuable lead in this direction. The estimated cost of the station was about £6000. The Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) suggested that the item be deferred until the estimates were finally approved because if it were passed now the money would be definitely tied up. Councillor Appleton agreed to the adoption of this course.
