FARMERS' UNION
CONFERENCE REMITS
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day.
After a full discussion at the annual meeting of the Alfredton sub-provincial branch of the Farmers' Union on a stabilisation scheme for ewes, the following remit was adopted unanimously for presentation to conference: —"That in view of the restrictions on the export of meat, this branch advocates a universal levy of the necessary fraction of a penny a pound on all meat killed for the purpose of a stabilisation and compensation scheme."
Other remits approved were:—
"That legislation be immediately brought down to protect the mortgagor from extreme action by the mortgagee, embracing stock firms, banks, and private lenders, and that the Government reinstate the most efficient of the mortgage adjustment commissions to deal with all cases of hardship, and that in the interests of all the commission's findings be made retrospective."
"That steps be taken to make membership of the Farmers' Union compulsory for all farmers."
