H. G. WELLS
MAY LECTURE IM N. 2.
The possibility that Mr. H. G. Wells, the famous author and historian, may undertake a lecture tour of New Zealand this year was mentioned in ah interview today by Mr. D. D. O'Connor, who arrived by the Wanganella this morning to make final arrangements for the forthcoming tour by the Viennese Mozart Soys' Choir. Mr. O'Connor accompanied Mr. Wells on his recent lecture tour of Australia. "Mr. H. G. Wells was given a wonderful reception everywhere in Australia," he said. "At the conclusion of his big address.in Sydney he was. cheered by the crowd for fully five minutes. For a man of 72 years of age he' retains tremendous youthful enthusiasm and optimism, in spite of the fact that his outlook on world affairs has been clouded by the success of the totalitarian governments in Europe. He still carries on his endeavour to educate the people of the world into another way of thinking and seems to have boundless energy. Even at the coiiclusion of his big Sydney lecture he did not seem to need rest after the strain of a long evening on the platform, but sat down at his hotel to write more of,the series of newspaper articles on which he was at that time engaged."
