HUTT VALLEY NEWS

FAREWELL PARTY

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

Many friends were present at a pleasant farewell party given on Monday evening in honour of the Rev. T. Fagg, who is leaving the parish of St. James, Lower Hutt, to take up new duties at St. Peter's Church, Wellington.

The vicar, the Rev. H. E. K. Fry, paid tribute to Mr. Fagg's fine record of work during his years in the parish, especially in the outlying districts under his care which had shown great progress. On behalf of a large circle of friends, he extended to Mr. Fagg their sincere wishes for success in his new sphere, and also in his marriage to Miss Beryl Innis, which will take place shortly.

. Mr. S. M. Hobbs and Mr. G. L,. Giesen also spoke eulogistically of Mr. Fagg's services, and Mr. Giesen presented him with a handsome token of esteem from the parishioners.

A happy time was spent with glees, solos, recitations, and some very amusing competitions. The performers were Mesdames Hubbard and Stamp and Mr. Corbett (songs) Miss M.

Martin (elocutionary Item), and the Girls' Bible Class, who contributed several choruses.

An appetising supper was followed by dancing, including such favourites as "Sir Roger," the "Gay Gordons," and the "Lambeth Walk." The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" made an appropriate finish to the evening. Pleasant Tea Party. Mrs. Ray Brown was hostess recently at a most enjoyable afternoon party, her guests being officers of the Taita and Belmont Women's Institutes. The party was held in James Smith's tearooms, where the long table looked most attractive with tall vases of Japanese irises in shades of mauve and purple.

A pleasant feature1 of the party was a presentation made by- Mrs. Ray Brown to Mrs. F. Thomas, of Belmont, who, as convener of the singing circle at Taita, has given valuable service with excellent results. The occasion marked the end of a most successful year, and the party broke up with the exchange of good wishes.

The guests included Mrs. F. Thomas, Mrs. L. Woolley, Mrs. B. Foster, Mrs. B. Bentley, Mrs. Fred Hunter, Mrs. M. Bonthorne, Mrs. A. N. Jones, and Miss A. Wilson.
