GOOD GALLOP AT AWAPUNI

PALMERSTON N., This Day. Wild Chase, whose principal mission over the holidays is the Manawatu Cup, was in great form this morning on the Awapuni track when, revelling in the soft going, he simply outclassed The Bigot, another Cup candidate, over seven furlongs. The course was dead after recent rain, and the flags were 40 feet out. Fine weather prevailed for what were practically the final gallops for the meeting.

Wild Chase and Argentic were responsible for the two best gallops of the morning. They promise to be a very' fit pair on Saturday. Good gallops were also recorded by Laughing Lass, Counterblast, Royal Choice, and Corroboree.

Wild Chase had The Bigot for a companion over seven furlongs in lmin 35 sec, the last six in lmin 21 l-ssec. They covered the distance between the six and five furlongs in 12Jsec. Wild Chase cleared out from The Bigot at the end to finish very strongly. i

Argentic made better time when running his seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, but he did not finish with so much in reserve as Wild Chase did. He was assisted by Haughty Winner, who picked him up at the five furlongs, and

he ran this portion of the journey in lmin Bsec.

Laughing Lass continues to impress with the dash she is showing in her work. She decisively beat Oratory over five furlongs in lmin 6 l-ssec, the best of the morning for the distance.

~ Ecstatic went nicely over half a

mile in 52 3-ssec to beat Copycat. Cheetah and Diamond Cutter travelled smoothly over three furlongs in 40sec.

Royal Choice covered the last six of seven furlongs in. lmin 22sec, going very fast over the first three in 37|sec.

Counterblast ran five furlongs alone in lmin 7sec. La Bon finished in front of Vascones at the end of half a mile in 54sec- Great Flight got to. the end of five furlongs in lmin 9§sec.

Dainty Sue, coming on again, was well clear of Royal Record over six furlongs in lmin 22sec. Snigger finish-, ed in front of Titter and Colonel Bogey over five furlongs in lmin 9& sec.

Old Surrey ran seven furlongs in lmin 36Jsec without being under pressure over the early stages.

Tail Light beat Golden Ridge over six furlongs in lmin 22 4-ssec.. He is very well. Sporting Gift and Oriwai took lmin Bsec for five furlongs, slowing up at the finish. Hirangi and Yed Prior occupied lmin lOJsec.

Conveyer finished in front of Bumble over six furlongs in lmin 23sec. Corroboree finished full of running well ahead of Seyfried after completing seven furlongs in lmin 374 sec, the last six in lmin 24sec.

Jazz Boy, not extended, ran a comfortable five furlongs in lmin 9&sec. Florence Mills arid Lady Iria were both going very well over five furlongs in lmin 7 l-ssec. Duncannon was too good for Deflation and Classform over half a mile in 55sec. Gay Laura, picked up by Dainty Doll, ran the last four of five furlongs in 55£ sec.

Bing Boy gave a very satisfactory display of jumping in a school over a round of the hurdles.
