Gallops in connection with the Auckland Summer Meeting took place at Ellerslie this morning, and some firstclass efforts were recorded. The course proper, on which the poles were out 35 feet, was available, and the going was in excellent order. With the exception of a heavy shower during the breakfast interval the weather was fine. A feature of the work was a mile and a quarter by four Cup candidates, in ■which Mazir and The Buzzer impressed most, while Quadroon also pleased. The best half-mile was credited to Submission and Smoke Screen, and those to register best figures over five furlongs were Disdain and Valerian, while Marie's Acre was1 responsible for a good trial over six furlongs. Trench Fight completed seven fur-, longs in lmin 30 4-ssec, after taking 51 l-ssec for his first half-mile. He was doing his work well at the finish. Paper Slipper", after running his first two furlongs in 24 4-ssec, was finish-, ing on at the end of five, which took lmin 4sec. Coronation ran a mile in i lmin 46sec, the first half-mile taking 154 sec. He had a bit in reserve at the I end. Homily got to the end of six furlongs in lmin 20 2-ssec. She ran the first three in 352-ssec and was going comfortably over the later stages. The Cup candidate Wotan hit outj freely while traversing half !a mile in 50 l-ssec. He rah his first furlong; in 12 4-ssec and finished full of run--} ning. Kelly led Knight of Australia] and Erination over a mile and a quainter, which took 2min 17 2-ssec, thje last round 2min Bsec, and the fin#L seven furlongs in lmin 33 3-ssec. Keljy worked well and showed no signs jof his recent soreness. . ,'

. Entail broke away at the sevejnfurlong post, and, after running 3ils first half-mile in 51 4-ssec, covered the full distance in lmin 31 4-ssec. *3Jhis horse,looks well, but as yet no lajder has been engaged for him.

' Defaulter was going comforjtgibly alongside. Good Passage and Old/ Bill throughout seven furlongs in lm&n 32 3-ssec. They covered the first >three furlongs in 39 l-ssec, arid it was ai very satisfactory workout. Thurnnvaals came home from the six-furlong;* post in lmin 22 2-ssec, and Valspearr was running on at the end of five furlongs in lmin 4sec.

One of the most interesting; trials was that of Mazir, The Buzzes, Quadroon, and Padishah, who werfe? in that order at the end of a mile and a quarter in 2min 15sec. The Ija'st round took 2min 3 l-ssec, seven furljqngs lmin 32 l-ssec, and the- final ha#f-mile 52 3-ssec. Mazir was about hallt a length in front of The Buzzer, with /Quadroon close up and Padishah several lengths away. The performances,! of Mazir and The Buzzer are svure to bring them into favour for the Cup.

Smoke Screen drew attention to his Railway Handicap prospects by reeling off half a mile in 49 l-sfetec. He was going very solidly at the end and could have reduced the time.

Marie's Acre, Gay Sow, and Courtcraft were associated ?bver six furlongs in lmin 17sec. \MEtrie's Acre was doing it best at. the finish, though Gay Son, who had the* worst of the weights, was not disgraced.

The two-year-olds Submission, Scandal, and Wapaugh finished as named at the conclusion of half a mile, which took 49sec. It was She best of the morning over the distance, and Submission w/3 revellingj in her task at the finish. ;

Willie Win and Dictate finished clear of Arctic King at the completion of a round in 2min 5 l-ssefc. The last seven furlongs took Imin f3H l-ssec, and the last half-mile 53 1-5 sec. Willie Win had a bit in hand,, although Dictate also' pleased by his. effort.

The best five furlongs of the morning was credited to. Disdain, who finished clear of Swrella in Imin 3sec. The first two furtongs took 24 3:ssec, and Disdain gave , the impression that she could have dtone a good deal better.

The unbeaten Valerian was in front of Silver-Stick. af)ter traversing five furlongs in Imin.'s 2-ssec. Valerian is an exceptionally-.smooth galloper, and should run well. in. his engagements next week.

The two-year-olds Heroic Maid, Pern, and Lutahist finished as named at the conclusion of five furlongs, which occupied Imin -4 l-ssec.

Among those'to work on No. 3 grass track were HigSh Caste, Jack Tar, Konneta, and Fidexis. Stretto exercised on the tan, being;' timed to run her last three furiongsf in 40 l-ssec.
