REPORT TO CONSUL
The following cablegram was received by the Chinese Consul from Hankow this morning:—'"Our counter-at-tack at Tienshiacheng was successful.' The enemy sustained exceedingly heavy losses. We recaptured Shiangshan, over ten kilometres north, east of Tienshiacheng, and are continuing to press the enemy. The enemy's plan to capture Sinyang has been frustrated. There are no enemy troops to be seen west of the mountains. South of the Yangtze River the enemy is planning to capture Yangshin and has concentrated 40,000 troops for this purpose, one column having reached the east border of Yangshin Lake. An artillery duel is taking place between the enemy here and our troops on the other side of the lake. Our mobile units in Hopei captured Chongchow and Tingshing, north of Paoting, thus severing the railway communications between Tientsin and Pukow and Peiking and Paoting."
