STERLING EXCHANGE
(Received September 30, 2.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 29. Sterling exchange on New York is quoted at 4.75 dollars to £1. The Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. H. Morgenthau, jun., who was questioned as to whether the United States had helped the British to buy sterling over yesterday's critical period, said the "best answer" was in the 15 per cent, improvement in sterling since Tuesday.
