MILD TEMPERATURES

Special precast for .Wellington:-^ > Light to MioderaSfe but freshen- '■"', ing north-westerly Vinds. Weather fair to cloudy and mild.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for winds from west to north-west prevailing. They will be light to moderate at first, but will gradually freshen about and south 'of Cook Strait. On the West Coast of the South Island it will be cloudy to overcast with intermittent rain, and scattered and occasional rain is probable also in the west of the North Island from Kawhia southwards and in the far south. Elsewhere the weather will be fair to fine with mild temperatures. The slight depression located yesterday in Cook Strait has moved away to the east, and the Dominion is now covered by an intense anticyclone, the centre of which is near Cape Maria Van Diemen. Light and variable winds ruled in the North Island yesterday, while in the South Island winds were mainly moderate north-easterlies to northerlies. In the north and in the south the weather was fine, but central districts had unsettled weather, but although still cloudy it has improved. Rainfalls in almost all cases were less than half an inch. After temporarily improving, the weather in Westland is again becoming unsettled with the approach of a slight depression from across the southern Tasman Sea. Temperatures have been cool but are gradually rising. Last night was fairly cold, but there was too much cloud for frosts, Alexandra being the only place to report one. . Auckland has had pleasant weather with partly cloudy skies, moderate temperatures, and a light south-west-erly breeze. Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 62.1 and 53.4 degrees. ■ In Wellington the weather yesterday was heavily overcast and rather cold, the wind being a light southerly. There was occasional light rain, but the total fall was less than one point. Early this morning the wind changed to the north again and, it became much warmer. The maximum temperature yesterday was 58.6 degrees and the| minimum 43.5 degrees. It was over-cast in Christchurch, a few drops of rain falling about 9 p.m. There was a moderate southerly blowing in the morning, but the afternoon was calm and quite warm. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 56.6 and 44.7 degrees. A keen northeasterly breeze was blowing this morning. Dunedin had a sunny afternoon, but otherwise the weather was dull and cool with a light north-easterly breeze.
