ATTEMPT TO BLOW UP
BRIDGE

SYDNEY, This Day.
A conference of the mining unions decided to endeavour to induce .the maritime workers to declare "black" the 100,000" tons of coal which are being shipped to Australia from Great Britain for use in public utilities. An unsuccessful attempt was made to blow up a bridge on a private railway line leading to the Rhondda colliery in the Newcastle district. Five charges whic.h had been placed in the wooden supports exploded just after a coal-train had crossed the bridge, but the structure remained intact. ,
