WELLINGTON SKETCH CLUB

The half-yearly meeting of the Wellington Sketch Club was held on Wednesday evening. Mr. C. T. Laugesen presided. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance, which was considered very satisfactory. The secretary, in presenting a progress report, stated that the club membership totalled thirty-five financial members, which was sound proof that such a club was necessary in Wellington. The club had succeeded in the task it set out to do, namely, to assist the amateur artists of Wellington by holding criticisms, lectures, exhibitions, etc. No test or standard of work was required to qualify for membership, which was open to all who took an active interest in the fine arts. The more experienced members were always ready to assist and advise beginners. In view of the large attendance at life classes, it has been found necessary to hold another class for portrait and character study. It was decided to start a library and it was hoped that in time the club would possess a good art library.
